Loren's Badass Chick

Michelle Cully

I am out on maternity leave, but each week I have a new Badass Chick for you! If you have any recommendations for Badass Chick, please email me when I return to the air. In the mean time, be sure to follow me on social @LorenRaye and I'll be back before you know it!

I haven't been this floored by a Badass Chick in a while, and I'm excited to share Michelle Cully's story with you  as we kick off Women's History Month. She is the CEO of XPressman Trucking & Courier, and author of "High Heels in the Laundry Room." But her journey to get there is what's most amazing to me.

In short, Michelle was in an abusive relationship and one day, he came home, broke up with her, and kicked her out of the house. She was so paralyzed that her mom and aunt had to literally carry her out of the house. To make matters worse, when she went back to pick up her stuff, her ex told her "YOU will never amount to anything without ME." Ha.

Michelle decided to change her life. With just a high school diploma, she created a courier service literally from her parents' laundry room. She used to wake up every single morning, put on a suit and heels, and go to work in the laundry room. Michelle wanted to dress the part because she knew it would pay off.

...And pay off it did. 26 years later, Michelle has turned her business into multi-million dollar, nationwide operation. She never took a loan or worked with any partners. She bought her own building and has over 100 employees. Michelle said that she realized no one was going to do this for her but her… and she sure did make it happen. What a story!
