Loren's Badass Chick

Lindsey Kittredge

I am out on maternity leave, but each week I have a new Badass Chick for you! If you have any recommendations for Badass Chick, please email me when I return to the air. In the mean time, be sure to follow me on social @LorenRaye and I'll be back before you know it!

This week's Badass Chick is Lindsey Kittredge of South Boston. She's the co-founder and executive director of Shooting Touch, which uses basketball to educate and empower at-risk youth, women and their communities to lead healthier lives -- right here in Boston, AND in Rwanda!

Lindsey and her husband co-founded Shooting Touch in 2007 after Lindsey had felt a bit unfulfilled in her corporate job. Through basketball, Shooting Touch provides 150 elementary and high school girls with mentorship, tutoring and health education. They work on self-esteem and the importance of physical health, and they also bring in women police officers each week to meet with the girls. It's been so successful that parents are showing up to participate in a larger role, and some girls have even gone on to play for private schools.

And as for Rwanda, they've got five basketball courts in at-risk neighborhoods and have offered health care to over 1300 kids and 400 women. NOT BAD! Kudos to Lindsey for leaving her unfulfilling job to find a way to positively influence so many kids not just here in our back yard, but internationally as well!
