Loren's Badass Chick

Jess Colgan-Snyder

This week's Badass Chick is Jess Colgan-Snyder, Assistant Director of Camp Hawkeye in New Hampshire.

Jess is a firm believer in the power of camp and how much it can change a child's life. Her husband actually founded Camp Hawkeye in 2006 with the intention of celebrating diversity. Since then, the two of them have worked tirelessly to give campers the best experience possible. Part of that mission is to offer free tuition for kids who wouldn't ordinarily be able to afford summer camp.

So, to ensure that kids from all backgrounds and walks of life are afforded the same opportunities, Jess has been raising money every April for the past eight years by wearing a mustache all day: her Stach for Cash campaign. Literally, every day all day. She gets up and draws or sticks on a mustache and wears it whether she's working out, playing with her kids or running errands. She's found that it's a great conversation starter and this year alone, she's raised close to $7,000 -- which means seven kids will get the experience they deserve but otherwise couldn't afford. Jess just upped her goal to $20,000 and is continuing to wear the mustache even though it's May. She is hoping to attract the attention of Ellen and change kids lives, one camper at a time.

Be sure to check out Jess on social media (spread the word to Ellen!) and donate to her campaign here if you're in the spirit!
