Loren's Badass Chick

This week's Badass Chick is Jackie Bruno -- and her fellow Media Mamas! -- who are walking in the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism 5k this weekend.

You'll probably recognize Jackie from NBC 10 Boston, along with her fellow Media Mamas Heather Hegedus from Boston 25 and Andrea Natale, a producer at WCVB. They each have sons with autism and have decided to use their media platforms to educate others about the disorder.

Jackie's son Jack was diagnosed shortly after his second birthday, and she immediately went to work finding him all of the resources available to him. She quickly realized that while her family is fortunate enough to have great insurance, not every family is so lucky. She also found that talking about her experiences offered her a feeling of comfort and hope, and that's why she's chosen to raise money for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. Having been given the gift of story telling and a large platform on one of Boston's biggest TV networks, Jackie and her family have chosen to become advocates and beacons of hope for other families.

She and her fellow Media Mamas have already surpassed their goal of raising $5,000 for this weekend and if you'd like to support them financially or cheer them on socially, click here to learn all about the women and their amazing boys they're walking for!
