I am out on maternity leave, but each week I have a new Badass Chick for you! If you have any recommendations for Badass Chick, please email me when I return to the air. In the mean time, be sure to follow me on social @LorenRaye and I'll be back before you know it!

This week's Badass Chick is Helene Palmer of Groton. I first met Helene two years ago through the Miss Pink Organization, which is an organization that I'm so proud to be a part of. Each year we do the Miss Pink Pageant, where local breast cancer fighters and survivors are treated to a day of pampering and then later strut their stuff on the catwalk and bravely share their stories of survival.

I host the Miss Pink Pageant every year, and I was blown away when Helene shared her story with the audience. After having lost her mother to cancer 20 years prior, Helene herself was diagnosed in with Stage 1 breast cancer. She made the decision to get a double mastectomy -- which turned out to be one of the best decisions she's ever made, because Helene later found out that the cancer had spread to both of her breasts, not just the one like they had originally thought. It basically saved her life. (And she says that she heard her mother telling her to get the double mastectomy!)

Helene was crowned Miss Pink last April and has spent her year as an ambassador for the organization, focusing much of her time on volunteerism. She and her fellow Pink Warriors have gotten together throughout the year to raise money and awareness about Miss Pink, which helps local breast cancer warriors cover their basic necessities like gas money, rides to treatment, mortgage payments, flowers after surgery, and more.

On April 13th, Helene is going to be passing her crown on to the next Miss Pink. I adore this organization and I'm so proud to once again be a host for the evening. I would absolutely love to see you there, because we're celebrating our 10 year anniversary this year! To learn more, go here
