This week's Badass Chick is Ellice Patterson, creator of Abilities Dance Boston

Ellice has been dancing since four years old, and she is insanely badass. Ellice sometimes uses a walker (which is Wakanda-inspired, by the way!) while dancing, and a few years ago she was auditioning for dance companies who told her that there was no place for her. So Ellice was inspired to make that place.

While working on her Master's in management, Ellice created Abilities Dance Boston. It's a dance company and educational center for all dancers, both with and without disabilities. They have company members from all over the country, and Ellice has made it her mission to be sure the performances are inclusive. For example, there are audio descriptions for blind/low vision audiences and live captioning for audience members who are deaf and hard of hearing. It's important to Ellice that those details become the norm for performances everywhere.

Now three years later, Abilities Dance Boston is an official non-profit organization, and received a grant which allows them to continue their programming. Their annual performance is taking place in March at the Cambridge Multicultural Center, so if you want to see Ellice and other company members in action, find them on social media @AbilitiesDanceBoston.
