Loren's Badass Chick

Dani Hansen

This week's Badass Chick is Dani Hansen, a Paralympic rower from Watertown.

Dani was born with damaged nerves in her left arm and doctors told her mom that she would never be able to use her arm… but her mom refused to believe that, and she moved Dani's arm every single day. Sure enough, Dani grew up to be an athlete and decided to take on rowing in college at the University of Washington. I just love the attitude she grew up with. CLIP

Turns out that Dani's pretty good at rowing (UNDERSTATEMENT!!), since she's competed on the US Paralympic team, the US Para National team and is the lead trainer for Hydrow, which is basically Peloton for rowing inside of your house. Over the years, Dani has received multiple medals, awards and championship titles but this past weekend at the Head of the Charles Regatta, Dani reached a personal milestone and raced by herself in a single boat with two oars. Until now, Dani has always competed on a team and used just one oar.

I love that Dani has never once allowed her physical deficit to stop her from achieving such great things. I think she's setting an amazing example of how to follow whatever your passion is, despite any obstacles that may get in the way.
