On a new Instagram talk show I Weigh Interviews with actress Jameela Jamil, Sam Smith opens up about his gender identity.

Smith is candid about gender identity saying, “I’ve sometimes sat and questioned, do I want a sex change?" He admits he sometimes still thinks about it, but doesn't think that is what he wants to do.

He says when he read into nonbinary and genderqueer, he felt that is who he is.

Smith also discusses his body image struggles stating, “I've always had a war between my body and my mind.” He said he had liposuction when he was 12 years old after he discovered his body was carrying excessive amounts of estrogen, which led to developing breasts.

“Nonbinary/genderqueer is that you do not identify in a gender", he said. He then noted he will continue to use male pronouns for the time being.

Smith has always been open about his sexuality, and he has only recently started to do the same with gender identity.

The interview unpacks a lot more than just gender idenity, including fame, self acceptance and much more!

In the premier episode of I Weigh Interviews, Jameela Jamil discusses fame, body image and the daily practice of self acceptance with musician Sam Smith.
