This week’s Badass Chick is Rachele Pojednic, creator of Strong Process and an absolutely brilliant professor and scientist working to change our relationship with overall health.
I’m obsessed with Rachele because she’s personally helped change my life and my relationship with food and wellness. First, she’s super smart: she’s a staff scientist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (which is a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital) and also a professor at Simmons College. She’s a Flywheel Sports fitness instructor AND a cycling ambassador for Specialized Women, too. And since Rachele is so heavily involved in both the science and the fitness realms, she’s noticed the need to really bridge the gap between the two worlds. Much information that comes from the scientific world often gets lost/mistranslated as it makes its way to the fitness world. (For example: a long scientific study about apples comes out, right? Let’s say there happens to be a little bit of evidence that an apple can potentially be bad for you. The next day, seventeen articles are online about how we shouldn’t be eating apples anymore. And everyone is now cutting apples out of their diet.) Rachele is helping to recognize the nuance and bridge the gap so that more accurate information is presented and understood.
So Rachele created Strong Process, an all-day event focusing on three pillars of wellness: Eat, Move, Rest. She’s put together a panel of scientists, journalists, farmers, fitness instructors, etc to speak about the importance of each. These panelists are going to teach the basics of organic vs. conventional food, to speak about the importance of exercise (that has nothing to do with weight loss!!), and to define what exactly it means for our body to rest — and how to let it properly do so.
Rachele’s trying to make sure that we are as holistically healthy as we can be, by bringing her scientific knowledge to the fitness world that she loves. And I love her for it! Because a healthy Badass Chick is a happy Badass Chick!
