This week’s Badass Chick is Natalie Breen, creator of Autism Works Boston

Natalie’s younger brother Pat is on the autism spectrum and Natalie has seen first-hand how challenging life can be for him, despite him being talented, smart and hard-working. She’s seen Pat do some pretty fantastic things, like teaching himself to play guitar, volunteering at a local hospital, holding down a job at Stop & Shop and playing guitar in front of thousands of people at Fenway Park (pretty awesome, right?).

But as her brother grew older, she noticed that there weren’t many programs dedicated to helping people with autism as they become young adults. So two years ago, she started Autism Works Boston as a resource to help young adults on the autism spectrum find employment, support themselves and contribute to the community. She acts as a free resource for those seeking employment or simply advice on how to navigate conversations with bosses and fellow employees.

Natalie also works as a wedding planner (a job she took after walking away from a company that didn’t make her happy, despite it being rated one of the best places to work) and is running for Medford City Council (the primaries are next week!). Natalie’s love for her brother allows her to use her voice to make a difference for families and that makes her a massively Badass Chick!

Loren’s Badass Chick of the Week highlights local women and girls giving back to the community, following their passion and/or breaking stereotypes. If YOU have a Badass Chick you want to see highlighted, email!
