This week’s Badass Chick is Jodie Ofosuhene of Lowell. At 29 years old, she was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer after she noticed a change in her breasts while she was breastfeeding her baby. Jodie jumped right into the fight, receiving clinical trials, herceptin, a double mastectomy, chemo… you name it. Jodie also jumped right into the fight in another way too: she was determined to help other women so they don’t have to go through what she went through.
Just two weeks after her surgery, and the day before she started chemo, Jodie walked 26.2 miles in the Jimmy Fund Walk. She was paired up with her “soulmate” Noel, a mentor that she was paired up with through Dana Farber’s Soulmate Mentorship Program. This year, Jodie and Noel are co-captains of their own team and are raising money yet again for the Soulmate Mentorship Program. Not only does Jodie have a goal of raising $1500, she also can’t wait to become a mentor herself, something that she’ll be able to do five years after her diagnosis date.
I love that Jodie is fighting not only to stay healthy for herself, her husband and her kids, but also so willing to push herself to the limits to help other people who are going through what she’s going through. For that, she’s my Badass Chick of the Week!
