Calvin Harris’ latest single “Rollin” is a funky jam with hazy verses from Future and buttery vocals from rising star Khalid.

An infectious syncopated piano, backed by bubbly funk (straight out of Daft Punk‘s RAM arsenal) flesh out the beat as Khalid and Future trade lead roles. “I’ve been rollin’ on the freeway / I’ve been riding 85 / I’ve been thinking way too much / And I’m way too gone to drive,” Khalid sings. The snappy delivery is a change of pace for the powerhouse vocalist who typically languishes in syrupy R&B.

Harris has solidified himself as one of the industry’s forward-thinking hit-makers, but “Rollin” demonstrates a more nostalgic take on pop music.

The DJ has already dropped two singles from his upcoming Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1; “Slide” featuring Frank Ocean and Migos, and “Heatstroke,” starring Young Thug, Pharrell and Ariana Grande.

Fans can expect Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 on June 30th.
