This week’s Badass Chick is Lexi Theberge, AKA Miss Pink 2016.
For the past couple of years, I’ve been able to host an amazing event in Danvers, MA called the Miss Pink Pageant, which is a beauty pageant for women who are battling or who have battled breast cancer. It’s beyond awesome; these “Pink Warriors” strut their stuff on the runway with beautiful gowns and share their magnificent stories of survival. All of the proceeds benefit the Miss Pink Organization, which provides funds to cover the costs of medical bills and basic necessities for families in the Greater Boston Area affected by breast cancer. (When my mom went in for her lumpectomy, Miss Pink had a bouquet of flowers waiting for her at our front door when she arrived home. They’re seriously the best.) The organization was created by a sweet, sweet girl named Ashley Herron Schultz who is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside and I’m grateful to now call her a friend.
I’ve been following the pageant personally for about 5 years (never thinking my family would actually benefit from their services, haha – isn’t that always how it works?) and this year will be my third year hosting the event. I watched as Lexi, a military veteran who bravely served our country, was crowned Miss Pink 2016 last year. She had been a volunteer with Miss Pink for a couple of years before she herself was diagnosed in September of 2015. During her treatment, Lexi was actually let go from her job… so she knows first-hand how important organizations like Miss Pink are to families to help keep them afloat. She is a genuine Badass Chick.
If you’re free next Saturday, April 8th, and want to spend the night giving back to a phenomenal cause, I urge you to come celebrate with us. It’s a spectacular event that I am so proud to be a part of. Tickets can be purchased here.
