When Kouri’s oldest son was just three years old, he was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, or IBD. Though Timmy is just 12, he has spent over 200 nights in the hospital, has had three major surgeries and once spent 60 days straight in the hospital. Kouri has seen first-hand how difficult of a fight it is for anyone with IBD, but children especially. So she and another mom named Julie got together and created Gutsy Kids, a group with the simple idea of letting other kids with IBD – and their parents and siblings – know that they are not alone.
Next Thursday, Kouri is going to be honored as Woman of the Year at the annual Team Intestinal Fortitude fundraiser, along with her son, Timmy, who will be named Man of the Year.
Kouri has made it her mission to not only help her son receive the care he needs, but ensure that other kids and their families have a support system as well. So for that, not only is Kouri a wonderful choice for Woman of the Year, but she is my Badass Chick as well!
