This week’s Badass Chick is Joan Troche of Lowell, a wife, mother and veteran who is providing cheer to those who need it most.
Joan’s youngest daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis four years ago and, as a result, Joan and her daughter have spent countless hours at doctor’s appointments. At the beginning of her daughter’s diagnosis, Joan was introduced to a woman who started Sofia’s Angels Foundation who does various charity endeavors, like creating pendants supporting different causes. Joan asked her to create a “curvy girl” pendant to honor her daughter and others battling scoliosis. That was just the beginning.
During her visits at the hospital, Joan started to get really involved with helping others. She has made blankets and Halloween Hats for kids to wear in lieu of costumes, she’s sold Avon’s Curly Bears to raise money for Sofia’s Angels Foundation, and she’s participated in endless random acts of kindness. She has no plans of stopping.
I love that Joan identified a need and found a way to help people while keeping her daughter strong, too. It’s really no surprise, considering that Joan is an Air Force Veteran, so she’s no stranger to servicing the community!
