This week’s Badass Chick is Brookline-based Martha Huntley, creator of We Gush. It’s both an app and a web-based community that allows you to express your gratitude.
Martha’s pretty special, and that was incredibly evident when I spoke to her on the phone earlier this week. She explained that, for years, she had been a classroom parent and was in charge of group gifts for teachers and/or coaches. She noticed that as people’s lives got busier, and as everyone’s lives got far more dependent upon technology, parents and students weren’t as likely to express their appreciation for teachers, coaches, etc. So, she created We Gush!
It’s a super simple app and web-based wall board that allows a person or group of people to write thankful sentiments for someone. What’s really cool is that, once you send your Gush, the recipient has it for a lifetime and can always go back to look at it whenever they want.
Martha started We Gush in 2013 as a web-based application and now, just two years later, already she’s got an iPhone app, has collected 17,000 likes on the We Gush Facebook page and is in the process of creating an Android app. And it’s safe to say it’s catching on: I’ve seen the physical stickers that she hands out (I spotted one at my gym!) – the physical stickers emulate the virtual stickers that you can send people via the app.
I love that Martha recognizes the power of positivity and gratitude and has created a really simple way (REALLY simple: legitimately 4 clicks, if that!) for us all to remain connected and leave a little love for others. For that, she is my Badass Chick of the Week!
