This week’s Badass Chick is 24-year-old Rose Kamsler, a Crohn’s Disease warrior who is walking to find a cure.
Rose had been struggling with health issues all throughout middle and high school, and was finally diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease the summer before her freshman year of college. Because embarrassment and stigma can surround Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Rose kept it a secret from her friends, even when she was missing classes in college due to her health.
Just this past fall, Rose underwent surgery to remove 8 inches of her intestines, and she had an epiphany. For almost half of her life, she had been working closely with Relay for Life to spread awareness of and find a cure for cancer. She felt like a hypocrite; here she was spending all of her time helping a wonderful cause without donating any of her efforts to her own cause. So, Rose broke her silence.
Tuesday night, Rose decided she was going to participate in the CCFA walk happening tomorrow on Boston Common which raises money and awareness for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. 1 in every 200 Americans has Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and there is no cure. In just 24 hours, Rose raised over $300 and she is eager to have others join her tomorrow. The walk is about 2 miles and the weather is supposed to be beautiful, so if you’re interested in joining in the cause or helping Rose fundraise, check out her web site here.
Rose is a Badass Chick for breaking her silence in an effort to help others!
