This week’s Badass Chick is Dani Holmes-Kirk, a Somerville woman who has overcome two eating disorders and is on a mission to encourage others to live a healthy lifestyle like she is now doing.
Dani recalls that growing up was always tough in terms of body image. She remembers vividly the day she was standing on the side of the road when a group of boys drove past her and yelled “moo” out of the car. Their actions really got into her head and make it increasingly difficult for her to overcome her negative thoughts about her body.
In 2006, Dani experienced what she considers to be the worst year of her life. She overcame not one but two eating disorders and continued to struggle with her weight. Finally, in 2009, she decided she was tired of living her life on the sidelines and was determined to make a change. As Dani puts it, she finally decided that she was worthy of making that change. And a change she did.
After joining Weight Watchers and becoming a runner (a SERIOUS runner: SEVEN marathons!), she has lost 80 pounds. On a daily basis, she works hard to keep a positive attitude and is inspiring others on a daily basis by working for Weight Watchers and blogging very openly about her journey.
I love that Dani is working hard to keep herself physically and mentally healthy, and is open to sharing her journey with others in an effort to inspire people to live their best lives. For that, she is my Badass Chick of the Week!
