This week’s Badass Chick is 8-year-old Sophie Trow who recently wrote to Clark’s Shoes asking them to make boys’ dinosaur shoes for girls, too.
She and her mom were shopping when she spotted an awesome pair of shoes that leave dinosaur footprints behind (seriously, what’s cooler?!). The clerk at the store said they were designed specifically for boys’ feet. Disappointed, Sophie wrote a letter to Clarks, telling them that she doesn’t like the flowery designs marketed towards girls, and that she hoped they would consider making the dinosaur ones for girls, too. Sophie’s mom Tweeted them the letter, and Clark’s responded.
Luckily, the store’s clerk was misinformed: the shoes are safe for everyone’s bone structure. But in the mean time, Sophie sparked a movement on Twitter called #InHerShoes in which women who work in scientific fields tweet pictures of their shoes to show that no matter how “girly” or how “boy-ish” the shoe, you can still like science! Too cute.
