This week’s Badass Chicks are particularly awesome because they are working on a way to make children’s hospital stays easier and less scary. Yuan Yin and Kathryn Jones have created SuperHealos, which provides children with age-appropriate stories and products to help them bridge the gap between sickness and recovery, loss and acceptance, fear and courage.

After Yuan’s brother-in-law unexpectedly passed away, and then she herself had an extended hospital stay, Yuan realized how scary it is for children to be in the hospital. Re-focusing her life, Yuan quit her job at IBM and teamed up with her friend Kathryn, an occupational therapist, to create SuperHealos. After consulting with doctors and nurses, the girls created an informational coloring book, some YouTube videos and wonderful little capes that kids can wear during their hospital stay to give them the courage they need to make it through their stay. They’re also working on new hospital gowns for children which are comfier and easier to use.

Yuan and Kathryn have set out to raise $10,000 for their cause and are almost halfway there. I love the fact that the girls have become so passionate about helping children in a scary, stressful situation. To help donate to their campaign (EVERY little bit helps!!!), click here.
