This week’s Badass Chick is actually a mother-daughter duo from Holliston! Carol Svirsky is running the Boston Marathon this year in honor of her mother Brenda Sullivan, who suffered her first stroke 36 years ago and is continuing to kick ass every single day.
When Carol was just 4, she and her mother hopped into the car after grocery shopping, and her mom started complaining of a headache. Within minutes, her mother suffered a stroke and, at the age of 40, was paralyzed on the left side of her body. The reason Brenda is a Badass Chick is because, despite another stroke years later, Brenda has refused to let the stroke prevent her from living a full life. According to Carol, Brenda has a phenomenal attitude and sense of humor which have allowed her to continue living life to the fullest.
In her honor, Carol will be running with Tedy’s Team to raise awareness and funding for stroke research, which is pretty impressive especially because two years ago, she was not a runner. If you’d like to donate to Carol’s team, or to learn more about Carol and her mom Brenda, click here. I think we can all take a lesson from badass Brenda: have a sense of humor and a positive attitude to stay strong!
