This week’s Badass Chick is Amy Leblanc, an English teacher at Weymouth High School. Not only does Amy do one of the most noble jobs on the planet, but she has gone above her call of duty by creating an after-school program for kids and former students in need of educational assistance.
Amy grew up in Lynn, Massachusetts and saw first-hand how many challenges students face on a day-to-day basis. Some of these challenges prevented fellow students from reaching their full potential and from graduating high school, and Amy has never forgotten that. Now, as a teacher, she is working hard to ensure that every student has the chance to graduate. She worked with other teachers in the school to apply for a grant which would allow them to create the Twilight Program at their school. Sure enough, Amy’s proposal was one of the selected winners.
With the grant, Amy and other Weymouth HS staff are able to work with current students at risk of dropping out, as well as former students under the age of 22 who have previously dropped out. Amy has helped many students stay on the right path, and I know for sure that they are thankful, because one of her students actually tipped me off to her.
Amy Leblanc has gone above and beyond what her job description is in order to provide others the best possibility of success, and I love that! Amy, you are my Badass Chick of the Week!
