Loren’s Badass Chick: Ellie Monger

Let me start by saying that I LOVE Ellie Monger, an 8th grader from Scituate, and I am so excited to have come across her phenomenal charity Wish Upon a Crayon. It’s pretty much the cutest, simplest and most creative charity I’ve heard of in a while: she melts broken and old crayons into star shapes. She then donates the crayons and brand-new coloring books to children in homeless shelters. Wish Upon a Crayon is as simple and as heartfelt as that. (My heart is melting right along with these crayons.)

It all started after the Sandy Hook tragedy and the Boston Bombing… she was heartbroken and wanted to help out in her community, but no one would let her volunteer because she was too young! So, she made her own charity! Ellie got the idea when she was out to dinner with her family and noticed waitresses throwing away old crayons. Ellie then began collecting broken and used crayons at places all across her town. She is such a little Badass Chick for finding ways to recycle products and do good for people at the same time. Rock on, Ellie!

If you want to help Ellie, she’s holding a volunteer day this Sunday!
12-3p, First Trinitarian Congregational Church in Scituate, MA
